The heat from the bulb causes the timer face to darken. This makes the timer useless. It would probably work better on an ELMO.
I use Kagan's Timer Tools. I have it loaded on my computer and then project it on my screen when I set a timer for my students.

Just google it and you'll love it. It comes with different sounds to choose when the timer goes off.
